Welcome to Ruapehu

Ruapehu is at the centre of it all, the place where the action happens. The famous volcanoes and their skifields, enchanted forests, great walks… spectacular scenery and places to explore in every direction. The Ruapehu District is home to three towns linked by rail and highway: Taumaranui, National Park and Ohakune. On the other side of the mountain, the army town of Waiouru stands guard. The mountains and natural environment dominate the District, and its economy:  it’s all about innovative tourism, farming and forestry.
